Kingston Penitentiary Part 1: The Museum

SPOILER ALERT! THIS POST CONTAINS PHOTOS AND DETAILS OF KINGSTON PENITENTIARY AND IT’S MUSEUM. IF YOU PLAN ON SEEING KINGSTON PENN AND DON’T WANT ANY DETAILS RUINED FOR YOURSELF STOP READING NOW!

The Kingston Museum is located between Kingston Penitentiary and Kingston Prison for Women at the old warden’s house.

This place is “free”, they ask for a donation to enter but it’s really up to you. There’s lovely workers at the front who tell you about it and after that you’re free to roam at your pleasure.

The museum is literally just amazing things from the Penn. from the beginning to the end.

The bell (above) was the hub of the prison. This bell rang 100 times a day, it was the one thing that told you what to do, at what time of the day to do it. Now the Bell is broken, that’s because during one of the 3 riots they broke it and I don’t blame them.

Above are old keys that the guards had to use to open and close all the doors until they updated the prison. These keys were massive and heavy, at some point in the museum there’s a small area where you get to turn one of the keys in a lock. It took some effort to do and it was loud.

Above is an old cell back in the 1800’s. There was enough room for their beds, during the day they would lift their beds and lean it against the wall so they had “walking” room. I’m 5′ 3 and your average size, I would have trouble fitting in this cell,I couldn’t imagine being in there. The cell you see now at the Penn are two of the old 1800 ones combined.

Above is a picture of shanks taken from Millhaven from 2004-2008. Millhaven is the prison that still runs in Kingston. It’s amazing to look at and see how they make them.

Above is art from an inmate, can you figure out what it says? There was a bunch of art which was amazing, there was some talent locked up.

My finally picture for this post in the stone that the prison was made of. The inmates actually built the prison while they were serving their sentence. The work they did was amazing, which you will come to see in a future post!

Stay turned for more about my Kingston Penn trip!

World’s Largest Rubber Duck

On July 1st to July 3rd Toronto had the Redpath Waterfront Festival! The highlight of the festival was a giant rubber duck; it’s 61 feet tall, 79 feet wide, 89 feet long and 30,000 pounds!

I was super excited because I love rubber ducks, I even have a tattoo of one on my arm. I waited a year to see it and once I saw it I couldn’t believe it.

I was going to Toronto for the Canada Day Jay’s game with my Uncle and Sister so we went fairly early. This was probably the best way to do it because we saw the duck before anyone was awake! After the game we went back to the duck to buy shirts and a mini version of it!

Aveda Institute Grad

The whole reason why I took a break from Maeg’s View in the first place is over!

I was attending Aveda Institute Toronto from July 2016 to April 2017. I’m happy to say that I’m an AIT graduate and I’m currently working at a salon in Woodbridge, Ontario as a Hair Stylist!

It was a long, stressful 10 months but I was able to do it while meeting some great people!

Bubble Soccer!

Hey everyone! So the last couple of years have been crazy busy and fun but now I’m officially back. I am going to try my best to keep up with it and that’s starts today with my trying to catch you guys up on everything I’ve done in 2017 so far!

Way back when in April (HOLY) my brother in law decided he wanted to do Bubble Soccer for his birthday!

My boyfriend and I actually showed up late but we made it in time to play. You have to crawl into these bubbles where there’s a hole at the top and bottom so you can breathe. Inside there’s straps that go over your shoulders so you don’t have the hold the bubble up and there’s handles in the front so you can hold on for dear life cause you’re gonna need it.

You play the game like dodgeball and soccer combined. It’s the funniest thing to watch because you just see little feet runny around in these giant bubbles. The people we went with would run into you, push you over and get pretty into it so it was fun!

The only downfall is that even though there is a hole at the top, it is so hard to breathe in them. We were all dripping in sweat after playing.

If anyone wants to play bubble soccer we went to

July Favourites 2017

Makeup Favourite:

NYX Cream Lipstick – Soft Spoken

My friend actually told me about this product because she wore it one day at school. She let me try it and I fell in love with it. It goes on creamy but dries matte which I love and it lasts pretty long. I got this at Shoppers Drug Mart for roughly $12.

Skin Care Favourite:

Clinique_Sonic_System_Purifying_Cleansing_Brush_1410609749_main

Clinique Sonic System Purifying Cleansing Brush

I needed a new face cleansing routine because skin changes and I noticed mine just wasn’t working anymore so I decided to use Clinique. I actually got this brush in a set but I will talk about the other products it came with later on. This brush is amazing, it is a gentle vibration to help clean your face. It comes with the regular brush head but there’s different ones for different types of skin to fit everyone’s needs. I switched out the regular brush for the Gentle brush because I have sensitive skin. You can get this at a bunch of stores such as the Bay, Sears, Sephora, etc for roughly $111.

Aveda Shampure Dry Shampoo

They released this product while I was still in school at Aveda Institute and ended up using it almost everyday. This is a non-aerosol powder mist dry shampoo that smells like the Aveda Shampure smell. Because it’s non-aerosol in order to use it you tip it upside down, bring it back up and lightly squeeze. This product is amazing because I hate the smell of regular dry shampoos and this one doesn’t harm the Earth and it’s atmosphere because it’s non-aerosol. This product is always great for styling your hair, like braids and up-dos. Aveda sells thing product for $39.00.

Body Favourite:

Bittersweet Rose Gold Plated Sterling Silver Cubic Zirconia Earrings

I just love all of Bitter Sweet’s jewellry but sadly they got rid of the location closest to me so I need to go to Mississauga now. I fell in love with these earrings online and had to have them so I got them. They look like expensive jewellry without having to break the bank for them. I got these for $78.00.

Home Favourite:

Ikea Hemnes Dressing Table (Vanity)

My awesome boyfriend got me this for Christmas last year and it’s the best. It is on the big side so if you have a small room it can make things hard but it’s absolutely beautiful. On the other hand, putting it together was a pain in the ass but it’s worth it in the end. He got this at Ikea for $249.00.

Music Favourite:

Banana Brain by Die Antwoord

Random Favourite:

Google Pixel – Black

I got a new phone because my other one crapped out but I’m in love with this phone. It works wonders and it’s easy to use.

Starbucks Unicorn Frapp

I first heard about this frapp. in a post on Facebook which I honestly thought was another “junkmail” post until Starbucks sent out it’s usual up and coming email about it. Everywhere I read though it kept saying, “Only available if you believe” which again makes me think it’s fake.

I decided to ask around if anyone saw someone with this, one person said yes. I finally said I was walking to the Starbucks behind my school to see if this was real. It was and it was the weirdest drink I’ve ever gotten. There’s nothing written about it, saying what’s in it or what the flavour is so it was a leap of faith? The barista proceeded to tell me that it’s going to taste like mangos….it did not. The blue stuff on the side is the sour part of it which also has no flavour. The pink frapp part is literally ice with pink food colouring and there’s whip cream with blue and pink sprinkles on it.

I’ll admit it, at first my friend and I were excited when we got this weird concotion but the more we drank it the more weirded out we got. Literally everyone tried it, some were confused by it, some hated it, some said it didn’t taste like anything and maybe one person said it was good.

People have been questioning why they sold this and there’s articles going around about the Founder bashing Starbucks and this frapp. It’s good marketing, and it sold drinks. Starbucks is a business regardless if you see it as a coffee shop, it’s a damn business. There’s a head office that says we need this and we need that, and you know what we are the lovely people who bought it. It was a mystery we wanted to solve so we bought it. It was 100% good marketing.

In the end, I wouldn’t buy it again but it was worth the adventure.
